Collaboration with Blacklane

The recently announced collaboration with global professional car service Blacklane brings several new destinations to our map as well, for example in the USA and Canada. You can read the full story here.

Prices listed are examples only at the time of writing this article, and are subject to availability.

Cabforce and Blacklane: full speed collaboration

Global professional car service Blacklane is now fully available in Cabforce. This makes it possible to book Blacklane services in Cabforce taxi and airport transfer booking platform.

With the service being available in 50 countries and 400 airports, Blacklane is an excellent addition to the Cabforce network of service providers. As a high-quality service provider operating close to taxi rates, Blacklane is recognised worldwide by supreme service and customer satisfaction levels.

“Collaboration with Blacklane brings to Cabforce both new destinations and new ride options via inclusion of Blacklane’s extended geography reach and service portfolio. For example, a whole bunch of new destinations in the USA and Canada have now been added to our map via Blacklane. For Blacklane this cooperation means the exploration of new distribution opportunities and the distribution potential,” commented Juha Nieminen, Chief Content Officer at Cabforce.

The Blacklane service is available for all distribution channels of Cabforce, such as Cabforce supported GDS tools (Amadeus Selling Platform™ and Travelport Smartpoint™), self-booking tools (Amadeus e-Travel Management™ and soon to be launched KDS Neo™), white label booking engines and custom API solutions. In addition, the global content of Blacklane is distributed through CarTrawler partner channels.

“Travelers demand ground transportation choices based on the purpose of the trip, destination, budget and desired experience but they are not willing to compromise safety, quality, reliability and price transparency,” said Jens Wohltorf, CEO and co-founder of Blacklane. “We are excited for Blacklane’s services to now be distributed to even more customers.”

New Format for Cabforce Booking ID

Our next platform release planned for Thursday December 3rd 2015 will introduce a new format for Cabforce booking identifiers. We are changing the old 6 character (including letters and numbers) format to be 9 digits. Numbers only, letters need to go.

Old: X1Y2Z3
New: 123456789

There’s two simple reasons for this. Letters are quite difficult to be spelled and understood when passengers and agencies talk with our customer service. The old format is also similar to flight booking identifiers, and we want to avoid our users confusing these two.

What’s new in Cabforce Content Hub API v2

The release of the second version of Cabforce Content Hub API includes major improvements to our search API. With the update, API clients can now get much richer information in the search results and better control the scope and content of the results, as well as how the results are returned. This brief overview provides some further insights.

Richer search results

The returning search result information is now much more complete and contains detailed information about the rides. In addition to regular information on prices and availability, the new API provides details on the car type (e.g. sedan, SUV, minibus, etc.), the car category (e.g. standard, business, executive, etc.), the car properties (e.g. electric/hybrid car, wifi availability, compliments included such as newspapers or bottled water etc.), and various extras available at additional charges (e.g. longer waiting time). Different policies (e.g change and cancellation) can also be obtained through the API. More detailed information on the suppliers, such as the name and the logo, is also available to certain API clients.

Optimised and asynchronous responses

The new search API allows optimisation of responses by filtering of results. Typically, the search result sets may grow quite large in size (e.g. in case of prices in multiple currencies), leading to slower response times and increased processing overhead for clients. Our new API allows the developers to specify filters and remove unnecessary information to keep the responses concise. The new filter function is especially important for mobile clients.

The new search API also allows asynchronous processing of search results. With this new API option, clients can resume processing, while the search results are being generated. This way, the API developers can even further optimise their application UIs for the best possible booking experience.

Cabforce business grows, so does the technology platform underneath

With the steadily growing number of customers and volumes in daily bookings, Cabforce Technology platform is now subject to even stricter requirements, what comes to platform performance, security, and scalability. During the past weeks our technology team has been very busy implementing new features “under the hood” that are not visible to our end-users, but are inevitable to support increasing load on our service. We have been migrating our service to a new service infrastructure with better architecture and more performant servers.

We have also upgraded our systems to use a new domain name service (DNS) provider. DNS is one of the core services of the Internet that converts service host names to actual addresses, which means that reliability of DNS is one of the key factors in keeping the service up and running. Even though this change has caused some hiccups in our service availability, it was inevitable for moving our platform into reliable environment that supports more advanced features such as geography-based load balancing.

Along with these platform refactoring changes, we will also be introducing Cabforce Taxi Content Hub API Version 2 in the coming weeks. This new API version will provide our partners and developers with better access to the Cabforce Taxi content and details of the products we offer, providing even better online taxi booking experience to our end customers.

Last but not least, by any means these changes will also bring us a better software deployment model. The new model will allow us to do updates and fixes to our services without noticeable service breaks. Our new platform version will be released in production on Wednesday 28th of October, when a service break is still scheduled for 6:00-8:00 AM (EET). After that, new versions will be deployed without major service breaks, allowing our customers and partners to continue booking taxi rides, even if changes and new features are deployed.

Partner stories: Optimised taxi booking process of Claudia’s Travel

Claudia’s Travel chose to implement Cabforce Taxis and Transfers through a plugin for Travelport Smartpoint™, in order to optimise their taxi booking operations.

Partner travel agency
Claudia’s Travel

Location
Johannesburg, South Africa

Solution in use
Cabforce Plugin for
Travelport Smartpoint™

Claudia’s Travel have recognised the potential in offering transfers to their travellers as part of the package, but were lacking the right tool, which would streamline the steps of their taxi booking process. Cabforce helped Claudia’s Travel to take the taxi booking process to a new level – the process that used to be manual and fragmented, is now automated and easy to monitor. In addition, the service quality is now standardised across the globe and they can be sure about the ride quality, wherever their client is travelling.

Challenge

Claudia’s Travel receive quite a few taxi and transfer booking requests on a daily basis. Despite the fact that they were willing to provide clients with additional services, the process on their end was quite complicated: they had to contact a call centre, deal with a third party tour operator or find an independent solution to arrange transfers for their travellers. All these operations were time consuming and a clear need for a more efficient solution has appeared.

Solution

Claudia’s Travel have started using Cabforce, because it could be brought into use right away and it is fully integrated with Travelport Smartpoint™ – the booking tool they use daily for booking flights and hotels for their clients. Claudia’s Travel simply needed to install the plugin – and the solution was ready to use immediately.

“We chose to start using Cabforce, because it is an integral part of our flight and hotel booking system, which we are using every day for all our bookings. Cabforce allows us booking taxis and transfers, as we book flight and accommodation for our travellers.”
Christiane Glanz, Senior Consultant at Claudia’s Travel

Outcome

For Claudia’s Travel Cabforce is an easy tool that helps them provide their clients with safe and professionally managed transfers, which they can rely on – both abroad and for domestic transfers across South Africa, where travellers emphasise trust a lot, when planning their travel arrangements.

“We deal mainly with corporate clients and we can offer them a more streamlined travel solution. Cabforce does save us and the client money and time. We knew, that we can use Cabforce without fear or concern, because we found out about Cabforce from Travelport, ” – comments Christiane.

Claudia’s Travel highlighted that they find especially valuable the ease of use and the pricing of Cabforce Taxis and Transfers. They believe that the key benefits are instant confirmation of transfers worldwide and a possibility to provide travellers with complete door-to-door solutions.
